Privacy Policy

This site, sametkasik.ca, is my personal blog. I collect as little personal information as I can. This page explains what is collected, why, and what you can do about it.

Email subscription

If you subscribe to receive new essays by email, I collect your email address. I use it only to send you notes about new writing on this site. You will first receive an email asking you to confirm your subscription, and every email I send includes a link to unsubscribe.

The subscriber list and the emails are managed by Kit, an email service provider based in the United States. Your address is stored on Kit’s systems and may be processed outside Canada. Kit records basic delivery information, such as whether an email was delivered or opened, which helps me understand whether the emails are useful. You can read Kit’s privacy policy for details.

When you email me

If you write to me, I receive your email address and anything you include in your message. I use it only to reply and to continue our conversation.

Visitor statistics

I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit, which articles are read and which sites refer visitors. It does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites. I see aggregate figures, not individual visitors.

Server and security logs

Like most websites, the server that hosts this site keeps technical logs, such as IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working, and are kept by my hosting provider for a limited period. The security systems that protect the site may also record IP addresses of repeated failed login attempts.

Cookies

This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies. The hosting provider’s security systems may use a short-lived cookie to tell people apart from automated traffic. Fonts are served from this site, not from a third party.

Sharing

I do not sell, rent or trade personal information. It is shared only with the service providers named above, to the extent needed for them to provide their service, or where the law requires it.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email. You can also ask me what information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, by writing to the address below.
